NIGUARD HOSPITAL

October 10, 1939 Birth of Niguarda Hospital. The project was born from a triple union Giulio Marcovigi engineer, Giulio Ulisse Arata architect and Enrico Ronzani illustrious physician.

A hospital is created which guarantees the reduction of hospital infections, adequate specialist medical care and appropriate space disposition dedicated to various pathologies.

Numerous pavilions communicated through loggias and elevated paths, with accommodation intended for recuperation areas. Below Niguarda is an efficient network of underground passages suitable for hospital transportation.

The rationalist architecture of the 1930s and the works of art in it contribute to defining the hospital as a place of artistic value.
In 1993, Niguarda was identified as a nationally-respected and highly specialized hospital and on January 1, 2016, the Great Metropolitan Niguarda Hospital was established. Over the last few decades there have been many restructuring projects and technological and organizational modernization.

Better design to overcome the traditional concept of a department in favor of a multidisciplinary approach to the patient’s different needs.

From the pavilions of the original project of the 39 Niguarda it has been reorganized into three major poles corresponding respectively to areas of different intensity of care:
• DEA block – emergency-emergency
• South block – high intensity (transplants, oncology, surgery)
• North block – media intensity and infant maternity
